Year Of Contentment + Soulful Portraiture.png

We all experience those joy-filled moments in life but they’re usually fleeting whereas contentment goes far deeper...

Painting is a wonderful way to ‘switch off’ from the pressures of a busy life & instead communicate the unspoken onto the canvas. By releasing those feelings, we can begin to feel contentment in other areas of our lives too.

Join me each month for spiritual nurturing with portraiture (for all), reflection, inspiring guests and simple pleasures.

Art helps us to switch off from the pressures of a busy world and enables us to reconnect with ourselves, refocus our priorities and slow down.

Studio - Jane Hinchliffe, Artist .jpg

Each month, I'll share with you a new and extensive soulful portraiture lesson. We'll be dabbling with various supplies and styles and creating paintings using acrylic, ink, watercolour, pastels, charcoal, collage, gold leaf, perhaps some clay and of course, using basic supplies such as graphite etc.

Along side the art, look forward to being inspired by other creative women and how they find contentment in a busy world. We’ll be hearing from talented artists, photographers, designers, writers and coaches - all with busy lives but with useful tips and heartfelt reflections to help you slow down. (See my amazing guest line up below)!

“I love processes - how things are done and made and I enjoy watching you navigate your ideas from heart to canvas.

From the class, I’m learning to slow down, not rush, to take my time in creating. I tend to set time restraints on myself, but I am learning to be content to move methodically and intentionally. This is a very good thing for me. I am enjoying this class so much. Thank you for creating it.”
— Julia Howard

Enjoy being creative, slowing down with gentle reflection, noticing beauty throughout the year, hearing from other women and finding contentment in simple pleasures…

* If you would like gentle but constructive email feedback on artwork you create based on the monthly lessons, just contact me via the link inside the classroom and I’d be happy to help.

* On the 1st of every month you can look forward to a new and extensive portrait lesson. The classroom will be ‘live’ throughout 2019.

* Guest offerings - these will be in the form of a video, essay or audio file.

* No pressure - create as and when you wish and flit around the lessons as you like.

* Art lessons will be suitable for ALL levels of art experience and will be downloadable so that you can keep them for as long as you want.

* In addition to the portrait and the special guest offering, you can also look forward to an audio file from me that reflects on that particular month, any notable dates and that month’s theme. In addition, expect observations from nature (the UK), reading favourite poems, journal prompts and book/web resources.

* Please don't feel you have to purchase a whole art supply store worth of items - it's really not necessary.  Please use what you have and what your budget or set up allows for.

* Ask any questions throughout the year and I'll gladly answer them personally via email.

Special Guests

I love hearing from other women, kindred souls and feel that we learn so much from each other when we share our heart, stories and truth.

My guests are all creative women who are juggling various responsibilities including business and family but are on the same journey to finding contentment.

Each month a guest will share either a written piece, a video, an interview or an audio file and I know you’re going to feel inspired and understood.

March - Spring has Sprung - mixed media portrait on paper including the use of bleeding tissue paper + audio file, etc.

April - Breathe - a beautiful mixed media portrait on an old book cover with miniature portrait + audio file, etc.

May - Light and Dark - mixed media portrait using water soluble media, thread and collage.

August - Dreams - a beautiful combination of poetry and mixed media with crystals interwoven, mark-making and lots of juicy layers.

September - Golden Light - gold leaf, loose organic forms, collage and an expressive portrait, will make this month’s project really special and a lot of fun.

October - why not up-cycle an old plate and then create a mixed media portrait right on top. I’ll show you how to ‘prep’ your plate and then move into the full process for creating your very own portrait. Once your finished, why not hang your plate using a plate hanger.

November - Autumn is such a beautiful time of the year, so this month I’m using leaves as a tool for stamping. This month’s mixed media portrait is both whimsical and so much fun to create with two different types of watercolour medium and charcoal.

Frequently Asked Questions

What happens if I sign up when the class has already started or nearly finished for the year?

This is no problem! No matter when you sign up, you’ll receive what’s been created so far. Upon purchase, you’ll receive personal log in details via email and will gain access within a private area of my site.

Is there a Facebook Group associated with this class?

No, I have taken the decision to NOT have a group.

Who is this class aimed at?

This class is for anyone who would like to create regularly but perhaps struggles to find inspiration, a style they like or isn't sure how to use certain supplies. On the other hand, if you're a full-time creative, it's sometimes a really great idea and often necessary, to just paint for fun without pressure.  This class is also a great way to pull together a series of paintings.  In addition, this class is for anyone wanting to create a little oasis of time for themselves - an opportunity to de-stress, connect with your creative spirit and explore your expressive side. I’m a firm believer that art is kind of magic and that imperceptibly worries, stresses and strains are worked through, often totally unknown to us but after you feel somehow lighter and more relaxed - content.

Once I pay for the class, how long will I have access to the lessons?

We are all busy and I understand that time is in short supply.  You'll be happy to hear, that you will have lifetime access via your login details (for as long as I am in business).  Once 2019 is over, you will still be able to see the lessons and the art videos will all be downloadable.

How are payments handled?

Your payment is securely handled by using either a credit card or Pay Pal.  Be assured that this is a secure connection and you will notice the lock icon in your browser - this shows that your information is safe and secure.

Payment is shown in British Pounds - do you accept other currencies such as Dollars/Euros?

Yes!  Once you pay, your currency is automatically converted when you check out using either a credit card or PayPal.  If you'd like to check your current exchange rate, I've found this site to be useful.

What if I need help or want to share my work?

If you have a question, please email me or, leave a comment below the art lesson in the private classroom.

Do you offer refunds?

I'm sorry but refunds are not available for online classes.

Can I buy this class for a friend?

Yes!  After payment, please provide me with her email address and I can send her the necessary details.  Why not purchase a digital Gift Card? Better still, do the class together - just get in touch and I'll be happy to give you an overall discount.

Any Questions/or help?

A Little About Jane…

An artist and online teacher, I’m passionate about sharing soulful, creative and practical tools that I’ve discovered through life’s challenges.

My journey has encompassed depression, the life-threatening illness of a child and a transformative reconnection to art-making that felt like 'coming home'. I’m learning to approach life and all that it entails from a place of gratitude, warmth and honesty through the lens of my faith. I love helping women slow down, reclaiming their identity and finding a sense of renewal and contentment that ripples throughout life using creativity..

I live with my husband and our two teenage boys in a beautiful rural village in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales in the UK.

Thanks for being here.
