Instagram Spotlight - Eugenia Loli Collage Artist

Today I'm sharing just some of the amazing work of collage artist - Eugenia Loli via another Instagram Spotlight

I'm continuing to explore all things collage whilst revisiting my class Fragments Of Joy and just had to share Eugenia's work with you.  Not only is Eugenia a collage artist but she is also an illustrator and film maker (her background is technology).  Eugenia is from Greece but has lived in California for many years.

I find her work to be inventive, entertaining, intelligent and well, brilliant!

This is what Eugenia says about her work:

It’s important for me to “say” something with my artwork, so for the vast majority of my work there’s a meaning behind them. I usually do this via presenting a “narrative” scene in my collages, like there’s something bigger going on than what’s merely depicted. Sometimes the scene is witty or sarcastic, some times it’s horrific with a sense of danger or urgency, some times it’s chill. I leave it to the viewer’s imagination to fill-in the blanks of the story plot.

Painting Prompts For Summer When You Have 10 Minutes!

Painting Topic Ideas...

painting suggestions for summer.png

If you've enjoyed this post, I'd be thrilled if you pinned it - just click the image.

I hope you're enjoying this new month; in fact, at this exact moment, I'm actually typing this in our garden - yay!  Today I started my 30 days of prompts for my gentle art challenge and thought perhaps you'd also enjoy some flexible painting prompts that will only take 10 minutes (or longer if you wish) to complete.

I'm all for creating whenever I can and sometimes 10 mins is all I've got and so it's helpful to have what I'm going to paint already taken care of - hint, look below for the prompts.

The Anglo-Saxons called June “sera monath” (dry month).

You may have school aged children who are home for the school holidays already (hello, US friends) or perhaps little ones who like to paint with Mum regularly.  I know when our boys were a little younger, I really enjoyed looking at the Artful Parent and the wonderful resources there.

I find painting quickly and without too much expectation helps shake my 'real' artwork up and helps me keep nimble; on my toes.

So whether you're joining in with the challenge (please use #createjoyfuljune2018 so we can find each other), or not, I hope you might try some of the Joyful June prompts and see where they take you and please consider popping by Instagram where you can see how the prompts are unfolding for me and I can for you... :)

Until next time...

Instagram Spotlight! - Hello Hydrangea

I don't know about you but I find Instagram a fun place to browse when I have a few minutes (or more lol).

I also really enjoy connecting with the friendly community over on Instagram - I find them to be really encouraging and inspiring...

Anyway, today, I wanted to share some of that inspiration with you!

Let me introduce Lindsey Campbell of HelloHydrangea.

Lindsey says: 'Each tapestry is handmade with love using materials sourced from around the world. Wall hangings sell out within a day or two..'

They say ‘Good Things Take Time’... weaving is one of those good things.
— Lindsey Campbell

I came across Lindsey recently and instantly loved her wall hangings.  They have such a modern feel but with a unique traditional twist which I love.

Lindsey's feed looks so inviting and varied; I was instantly drawn (or weaved lol) in!

Over on Lindsey's website, she details online courses, a blog with lots of interesting posts and some gorgeous woven necklaces.

I've also just noticed a recently published tutorial (fab!) on weaving and watercolour that Lindsey has generously provided, over on one of my favourite sites, Design Sponge!

Inspiration for you: Roses 'play sketch' video

IMG_0378.jpg

Don't you just love the roses at this time of year?

Every year I swoon over roses like I'd never seen them before!  Their beauty both astounds and astonishes me.

Two roses on one slender spray; in sweet communion grew.  Together hailed the morning ray; and drank the evening dew.

- James Montgomery

This morning I ventured into the garden and cut some roses (see photo below) to bring inside and with the idea of having fun sketching them.  I put the process on the video below too!

roses from the garden

As you can see, I made very loose sketches with my focus being on the petals and the colour.

I did side view sketches, the leaves, a rose petal and (of course) a rose in full bloom!

You'll see from the video that it's quite easy to sketch roses because for the purpose of this activity, no-one else is going to know the exact colour of your rose or the positioning of each and every petal - so just have fun and know you have my wholehearted permission to use a a 'bucket load' of artistic license with the shapes, colours and whatever else!

I do hope you enjoy the video...

Serenity in a teacup

Ah, by the way, above is a painting inspired from some roses from my garden last year.  I had displayed them in the little china teacup and saucer (that you see in the painting-my Mum's) and a couple of days later decided to paint them with this semi abstract background and oodles of texture.  The painting is called 'Serenity in a teacup'.

Just a little update...

PS. You might have been wondering what's the latest news on my upcoming ecourse - Delight?  It was due to start on August 1st but with the Summer holidays soon upon us (tomorrow is last day of school), the commissioned painting I've been working on for the past five weeks etc, etc, I've decided to keep my sanity (lol) and postpone launching until Autumn 2014.  I do hope you understand...

In the meantime, I've also been working very hard (a lot of late nights and times where I thought I could break my computer for sheer frustration!) at building a 'virtual classroom/membership area' to my site and that too is just about completed for 'Embrace'.  This will make facilitating my ecourses so much easier and hopefully will be a lovely space to receive your ecourse materials.

I'm just so excited that things are moving on because now I feel I can put some focused attention into my blog, 'my tribe' and offerings that I wish to share with you all - plus spend some family time with my beloved hubby and boys this Summer.

Thanks for understanding and wishing me well - you're the greatest...

Some answers...

My lovely friend Louise Gale - a mixed media artist, asked me to participate in a little virtual weekly blog hop.  This is something I've never done before, so I was more than happy to have a go and answer the questions put before me.  You can see Louise's response to the same questions here.

So, why not have a little break and catch up on what I'm focusing my energies on at the moment...  Are you sitting comfortably? lol. :)

1.  What am I working on?

I've been really busy with facilitating my first ecourse entitled Embrace.  There is one week left to go and honestly, I'm having the best time ever with this wonderful group of women.  The next class begins on July 1, so please register if you don't want to miss out this next time around.  I'm even offering a special discount if you want to do the ecourse with a friend.  There is also the opportunity of purchasing Embrace as a self-paced/on-demand ecourse for those of you that prefer to dip in and out and take their time.  Offering an ecourse that really speaks from the heart, has been a dream of mine for some time.  I love the combination of art, journalling, reflection, photography and interviews.

I now have a FREE 1hr art journalling video that I have been working on and by subscribing to my blog posts, you will receive this video in your inbox.  So why not get yours?

Free Art Journalling Video for Subscribers

I'm also really excited to start on a new series of commissions shortly for a local hotel.  I plan to show you some progress videos and photos of the work as they progress and then make a video with the paintings in situ and have a little chat with the owners of the business.

I also plan to offer an art ecourse shortly and have been producing a new style of work which I think will be fun, insightful and full of colour, vibrancy and meaning for anyone who wants to get creative and likes to journal.  So, watch this space!

2.  How does my work differ from others of it's genre?

I mainly work intuitively and because of this, my painting style changes depending upon what's on my heart.  I also find that colours, subject matter and the way I go about creating, often changes depending upon what time of the year it is.  Also, I wear my heart on my sleeve, so I often paint and create what I need to hear from 'that little voice within'.

My work very much stems from nature, gratitude for this wonderful planet and an overwhelming desire to spread love, joy and happiness wherever possible.

After having gone through some difficult times in life, I find art and creativity in general to be deeply healing and along with my faith have made me the woman I am today.  As a result of this, I am incredibly passionate about helping other women uncover their creativity that is bubbling beneath the surface.

Lastly, I'm also very interested in reflective journal writing, self-compassion and self-image and as a coach the life changing differences we can make when we get clear about our dreams in life and business, our passions, purpose and goals.

3. Why do I write/create what I do?

Simply because I can't not 'create'.  It's who I am and it informs so much of my life.  For so long I ignored my need to create and self-express and it came at a big cost to my own health and well-being.

4.  How does your writing/creative process work?

My creative process begins by a whisper of the heart - something that keeps on giving me a little nudge.  It usually stems from some aspect of my life such as my family, a childhood memory, a prayer or something from nature.  Other times it can be something I've read, a poem or a feeling.  I always have my camera with me and so sometimes photos are a starting point too.

So thank you for your interest and taking the time to catch up with me...

Take care and have a fabulous week.

Jane x
