Here in Yorkshire it's that busy time of year once again for local farmers with lambing season well underway. I love to see ewes with their young lambs - so cute. As I walk Mia in the morning after dropping off our boys at school, I can't help but watch the goings on with the lambs frolicking, the ewes calling their offspring that dare to stray and then how they manage to recognise each other and reunite. The lambs look adorable as they wag their tails too!
So it's perhaps no surprise that there just had to be a painting inspired by the lambing season and so below, here is my most recent watercolour painting: Ewe must be joking!
The first stage is getting the pencil drawing to my liking.
Then I start to set down those initial washes.
Gradually I add more colour, definition, detail (ie. the swirls of wool) and added interest, like the mini scene in the background. This ewe is busy munching on some grass - like they do ;)
Here's a close up of the painting - I so enjoyed creating the sky and adding extra detail with a black liner.
So, there you have her - very up close and personal! If you're interested in an original painting or print, please take a look at my shop. You'll also see other watercolour paintings that I have currently for sale.
Have a happy weekend - see ewe! [couldn't resist].
