Happy New Year everyone!
I hope this update finds you well and maybe you are in a 'reflective' mode (like me) being New Year etc?
My family and I really enjoyed our Christmas and New Year festivities, although it was such a shame that my in-laws weren't able to join us due to ill health on Christmas Day etc.
We did plenty of eating, watching films, playing games, sleeping in, visiting with family and generally having fun! I always find that after the hiatus of Christmas, I'm absolutely shattered and it usually takes me a few days to get over all the excitement, planning and general activity - just in time for more activity come New Year (yay).
As I said, I've been reflecting quite a bit on this past year and what I would like to bring to 2015. I've been wanting to simplify and streamline my life/business for some time now but haven't been able to settle on any particular practice to help move that forward. So, with that in mind, I'm going to make some changes to the way I've been filling my days thanks to my Daybook, Kimberly Wilson's wonderful seasonal podcast that I listened to last night (next one will be 23 March at 3pm ET) and a book I've been devouring called The Joy of Less by Francine Jay, Miss Minimalist. I'll let you know how these changes work for me...
Simplifying my life, really resonates with me deeply because for some time I've felt out of control with how I use my time, energy, resources and 'my being' in general. I want to make my moments count and not squander my time with activities (and possessions) that don't serve me. For instance, I use social media quite a bit as a small business owner but I often lose track of time - I want to rein that in somewhat.
For the last couple of years, I have taken to writing out my monthly dreams and goals (see January's below) but more often than not, don't follow through with most of the activities I've written down. So, maybe I need to be more mindful of what I choose as a dream/goal or I need to stop procrastinating and actually achieve more of the goals/dreams that I've taken the time to visualize in my mind?
For the last couple of months I've been making a point of not working (ie painting, computer work or social media) on a Sunday and will definitely keep up with this.
Another aspect of this is to look after my needs more. I cram as much as I can into a day and invariably forget about nourishing myself. I plan to walk further, eat healthier and set aside more time for reflection, prayer, journal time etc.
I also want to cut our personal belongings by at least 15-20% this year, make my juices and smoothies for myself and our boys more often and walk further in the morning after school drop offs with Mia (our little German Spitz Klein dog).
So, how about you?
Just a few questions to get you thinking...
How do you want 2015 to look?
What small thing(s) can you do to make this happen?
What worked well for you last year and what didn't work as well?
What do you want to see more of?
Lastly, I've had a number of women join my free art circle - Art as Prayer recently and wanted to invite as many women as possible who would like to incorporate 'art' into their life this year and beyond. You don't have to be able to paint, draw, be an artist - just have an open heart and a desire to explore your creativity.
